Book Review: Halal Investing for Beginners

Halal Investing for Beginners is a beginners guide on how to start, grow and scale your halal investment portfolio. This book review is personal as it’s authored by my former employers, Ibrahim Khan and Mohsin Patel of IslamicFinanceGuru.

Review summary: Overall, the book is a great resource for anyone wanting to learn about halal investing in one place.

My Book Highlights

1. Cultivating a Healthy Relationship with Money

“Personal finance, when done well, is not just a “thing” you do once and then forget about it, it is your ongoing relationship to money.”

Loved this quote.

The book succinctly explains budgeting basics and shows what a healthy relationship with money looks like.

2. Doing Your Due Diligence

There’s a vital chapter on doing your due diligence giving the susceptibility of the Muslim community to scams

Mohsin’s first-hand experience of meeting a OneCoin salesman was a great anecdote that drove home the message of the necessity of doing your research before parting with your hard-earned cash.

3. Investing for Impact

In the book, they made a strong case for why Muslims should be investing in Muslim countries to increase their impact.

“In the developed world the Muslim investment is a small drop in the ocean, in a Muslim country Muslim investment is the entire lake.”

My First Book Feature!

On a personal note, It was surreal to see content from my articles make it into a book – recognizing my own words while reading was a pleasant surprise alhamdulillah.

I’ll be forever grateful and humbled to get the opportunity to create content that can potentially positively impact people’s lives. I know it’s an incredible Amanah and one that I’ll do my best to do justice to in sha Allah.
